NOT MALE
This project explores the gap between the 1960's stereotype of "maleness" and the current notion, as well as the gap between "sexuality" and "gender" ... Further, it highlights the gap between the verbal and visual languages of sexual or gender identity that position outside of that stereotype and that collectively redefine "male" primarily, and increasingly, as a socio-cultural negative space left over by positively asserted ones. Since these identities may or may not overlap each other, what is the compelling need for a "unifying" acronym such as LGBTQQIP2SAA+ ?? How do these identities distinguish each other in a way that a general population can readily grasp? Where is the acronym more helpful than obscure? And finally, can art communicate identities better than language?
